Leontine’s Studio
The culmination of The Artisan Underground is the hyper‑detailed model of Leontine Fluermont’s studio, imagined as both a physical space and a narrative device. Through this studio, the world of The Artisan Underground becomes tangible. Layers of salvaged materials, patina, and intimate ephemera evoke the daily rituals and creative process of a fine artist living within a reclaimed ruin. This approach allowed for a deeper exploration of Leontine’s inner world, her obsessions, methods, and quiet pursuit of beauty, while advancing the broader narrative of a bohemian collective finding sanctuary amid the decay of post‑industrial Canary Wharf. The studio acts as a lens through which themes of craft, memory, and resilience are made palpable, transforming speculative architecture into a deeply human story.
Alongside the physical model, Natalie crafted personal documents, sketches, and ephemera belonging to Leontine Fluermont, building a layered backstory that deepened the fictional artist’s presence within the space. This narrative dimension allowed the model to function not only as a representation of architecture but as an artifact of a lived‑in world, embodying the project’s ethos of beauty, craft, and storytelling.
Development
The creation of the model box for was an intensive process that merged technical precision with narrative intent. Beginning with extensive research into artisanal studio typologies, Natalie developed construction drawings that translated the imagined space into a buildable form. Every element, from the structural framework to the bespoke furniture, was meticulously designed, fabricated, and finished by hand.
